Busy calendar

And I like it. Since I received green light from my doctor, Vasile Osean from MedySportLine, it seems like races are coming to me. I was thinking at Sugas Race and Mountain Marathon Rafael. Actually I was thinking to choose in between them. I already had 1 half planned for the end of November, and thought that 1 before could help. Sugas was a bit out, but I decided to ask if they need volunteers. And they need. And while I was speaking with one of the organisers, I asked if as volunteer I can run also. And I can. So I will.  Sugas has 2 days, run and bike, where running has 2 distances: 17 and 24 km. I Read more

Trial and error, 05.10 Training

After 04.10 when I went for a long run and came back with a PB for 10 k, yesterday I decided to go for a longer run. I calculated it should be 22 from my house, 3 rounds around the lake, back home. The lake has 6, till the lake 2 back from lake 2. Was not exactly 22. I got a half marathon distance. 21, 12 km. A bit more than a half, with about 30m. Good training. As I started running I felt not very good. Pain in the knee, pain in the hip. After 3 km I thought I might have to settle with the regular 10 and call the day. After the 7th km I started Read more

Trial and error, 03-04.10.2016

One of the lessons I learned in the training period for Baneasa Trail was to keep a diary of my training. I already started my training period for the next race, which I consider to be the half marathon I will do in November. I already registered for another one, in October, on 22nd. But this one is more of a test, I am not having any objective. I need to test some gels, see how my body reacts to a half, hopefully my hip will not protest too much, and have fun. I thought a long time where to keep my training diary and than it struck me: I have a blog. I can keep it here. So here Read more

It is time to say thanks

Back in the country for just about 6 months. I was not very comfortable with the thought of coming to Romania, and because I lost the position I came to interview for, I was even more disappointed. I was afraid that I will end up in a typical Romanian company with a manager with communist mentality. I was asked in several occasions if I was scared, if I thought I will not adapt etc. To be honest I did not thought about that. My main concern was the professional side. But, trough an interesting course of events, things started to look good for me. Mid April I started working. Late March I had 2 interviews with my current company. Although Read more

Training period & race day lessons

What did I learned? Main thing is that I am still dumb. That being said, I can continue. I had 12 weeks of training, which finished with the race day. My objective was below 50 initially, transformed in below 48, after I managed to lower my 10k time to 48 in one training session. I finished in 54,24. What went wrong? Well, after I judged at cold, I would say … besides my race strategy, nothing. I am capable in ideal conditions to lower my time, and I am able to finish 10.5 km below 48. Just in the race, those were not ideal conditions, and when setting my objective I did not considered that. Why I say those are Read more

Finally a doctor

Since my DNF at the second marathon, on 27th of December 2014, I have seen some doctors, been diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome, had some recovery, started running again, discovered that was not the knee, but the hip that made the knee bad, but never I was able to get to the bottom of it. Today I went to a doctor that was recommended by: 1 ultra-marathoner,  1 triathlon athlete, 1 marathoner. They said: you need to be checked by dr Osean from Medy Sportline. And I did. A very nice guy, very relaxed and in a good mood. Funny, when he checked my knee and my hip, so he had to touch me, he closed his eyes. Looked like Read more

12 weeks. Thoughts about running & racing.

Actually was a bit more than 12 weeks. I restarted running on 25th of May, after a break of 6 months, that came after another break of 3 months. 2015 was a disastrous  year with 128 km in total. On 25th of May 2016 I decided to give it another try and I ran 10k in 64 min. I ran on my own, alternating training strength with running till the end of July when I started after Paulo’s plan. 12 weeks, strength, running, diet. In June I started my fasting diet, and kept it very strict. At the beginning I was fasting just every other week, but with July I did 36 hrs weekly. My training plan made by Paulo Read more

Baneasa Autumn trail run

Or as I call it: the first race in 1 year and 9 months, but who’s counting? I had some objectives. One of them was to have fun. I did. The second one was to finish in less than 48, at least 10 k in 48. I can forget about this objective. I did 54:24 and a 38 place general and 18th in my category. Was it good? Yes. Was I dumb? Yes. And apparently this becomes a habit. Not to be good, but me to be dumb. The start was separated on times, that we had to declare when we registered. And per my time I was in sector 1. So I started with the best. So I started fast. Read more

Anxious for races

A lot of people asked me why I want to go to races. Running races that is. Since I got back int he country I also get the question: “how many did you win?” or something similar. It is not about wining. I need races for 2 reasons: the first one is simple. I need races in order to be motivated to improve. I compete against myself, I need to get better, faster, fitter, with more endurance etc. In the process I admit I might compete against other people. I need to see how much I can endure, where is my limit and how much I can stretch it. The second reason for me to be anxious about races has Read more

Running is a drug.

I am just few days before my first race in almost 2 years. I started to run again in may this year, with a mere 27 km per month. I benefited from Paulo’s training plan and I trained with more sense than ever. I got to run almost at the same level as when I was training for the marathon. Even better I managed recently to improve my times for 1 km, 1 mile, 5 km and 10 km. Halfway through September I ran 100 km. I am becoming dependent on running for clearing my head and my thoughts. I feel the need of running when I get angry, and I feel the same need when I am happy. Facebook Read more
